About Alyssa Irene

Artist Statement

Alyssa Hack is a photographer who primarily works in digital black and white self-portraiture. She was fascinated by the camera since she was young, her dad taught her how to use her first cannon at the age of twelve. Eventually taking photography classes in high school, Alyssa fell more in love with the worlds that photography could create. She started off learning how to use color digital photography, creating scenes through clay eyes and large boxes. In college, she explored how to use film, leading to her preference of black and white images. Inspired by Cindy Sherman, Valie Export, and Francesca Woodman, Alyssa’s work has grown into an exploration of herself, how women are forced to navigate the world, and how men can use their privilege to elicit change.
